Week 1

Finally some good news about Tanya's arm this week.
The X-ray she had on Tuesday showed some bone growth, - although not completely healed there is a big improvement on the last year.

The consultants orders where for Tanya to have another 6 weeks without using the arm, for anything more strenuous than holding a drink, and then hopefully she will be ready to start physio & riding.
Although we were hopeful (especially Mark, who is busy complaining of having a sore bottom from riding all the horses.) that Tanya could start riding immediately, we knew that it would be unlikely.

If anyone said last April when Tanya first broke her arm that it would take 2 operations and a year off for a broken arm to heal, we would have found it difficult to believe.
Lets hope this is the last hurdle.

Thursday, Mark headed off To Markfield Equestrian Center for our first show of 2003.
Markfield run an affiliated show on Thursday afternoons.
This works out conveniently for us at the moment as Mark can ride some horses before he has to leave - we are working him hard!!

This was Abalone & Dawn's first outing since the Festival of jumping last September.
Dawn was turned out for most of the time and came in just before Christmas fat and very woolly.

Abalone

After a few weeks in the field the weather turned nasty and Abalone decided her field break was over she jumped out and returned to the yard!
So she spent the rest of her break in the stable, just going on the walker for a couple of hours a day.

They both jumped very well. Abalone placing 2nd in the 1.20m Open.
Cleo & Gypsy both enjoyed there outing, Cleo was rather full of herself. (See Results)

Because they were jumping right up until Christmas, then spent the last month ticking over with the girls whist we were away, they are both pretty fit.
Gypsy placed in the 1.05M and the Newcomers.
Cleo finished 5th in the 1.15M.
Unfortunately there were a lot of people at the show.

Along well as the normal jumper riders a lot of event riders had their event  horses out practising for the start of the season.
Mark did not arrive home until after 10pm.

The joke around the yard was; how was poor Abalone who is guided by he stomach going to cope for all that time without her normal add lib diet ??!!

Tanya did not go the show on Thursday.
Before we had decided to defiantly go jumping we had booked a few lessons.
So Tanya stayed home and taught. (I think that was the better choice.-  In the house by 7pm or a damp Markfield till late. - no comparison!)
Although Mark did manage to stop at McDonalds on the way home surprise surprise!!

We were out jumping both days over the weekend.
Saturday at The College EC in Keysoe and Sunday back at Markfield.

Barry

Mark rode the same horses he had out on Thursday, and Amy took Barry.
The horses jumped well both days.

The college was more productive in rosettes.
Abalone was 5th  and Cleo 2nd in the 1.15M.

Gypsy won the Newcomers, and placed 2nd in the 2.05m.
He really has been so consistent since he started jumping in the August.
There is rarely an outing he does not come home with a prize.
We think he now has his 4 double clears in Newcomers competitions, so it is time to start to move up the heights.
At Markfield on Sunday he jumped in the 1.15m jumping a very good double clear.

French Gypsy

At Markfield despite the horses jumping well the only 2 rosettes were for Amy & Barry who came 7th in the 1.05M. and Abalone who finished 3rd in the 1.20M.
It was another late night home from Markfield - luckily we are well covered by the local McDonalds, which was to be our tea on Saturday and Sunday nights.

Mark read in the paper this week that a Big Mac has less calories than most sandwiches.
Tanya is not convinced at the heath implications of living on McDonalds.

If anyone has any good practical substitutions to McDonalds we would be happy to hear - well Tanya would !!!
