Thursday was a relatively quiet day as Coolio’s test was not until Friday afternoon. Mark took him out for a ride in the morning and again in the afternoon for the ring familiarisation, but it was an otherwise quiet day. Bramham always throws a wonderful Thursday night cocktail party, and this year was no exception! It was certainly an entertaining evening.
Friday came and went quickly, thanks in part to the beautiful weather. Coolio was his usual self and did a lovely test with clean changes in the afternoon.
Saturday morning started out sunny and beautiful, but that did not last. The weather turned foul just before the start of cross-country. Mark and Coolio had the benefit of going half-way through the CCI*** division when the footing and weather was at its best. Coolio skipped around the course like a pro, making the tough course look like pony club. Mark piloted him home clear and fast to be just one of six pairs to start Sunday on their dressage score. Coolio pulled up very well and was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed Saturday afternoon. He nearly took Amy for a walk after Mark watched him trot up!
Sunday morning the trot-up was not until 9:30, very civilised for a 3day. Once again, Coolio looked great and everyone admired Amy’s perfect plaits. Amy got to do the honour of hacking Coolio back to the stables after trot-up and was nearly bucked off! The big track from the day before didn’t seem to have taken anything out of him.
Mark jumped later in the afternoon, but the rails were falling steadily all morning, so we all held our breath as he jumped around. Coolio jumped out of his skin for a beautiful clear to finish 8th. Mark and Coolio were one of only two pairs to finish on their dressage score! Coolio is now enjoying a well-deserved holiday.
